[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Ross grew up in Australia and learned to ski as a teenager. He was first introduced to the Telemark turn on a ski touring trip to the Bogong High Plains in Australia and has been on a mission to perfect it ever since.
Ross has been living, skiing and teaching skiing in the US for over 20 years, with a never ending passion for it all. As an active member of PSIA, Ross has earned his Full Certification in Telemark and Cross Country skiing and has been involved in the PSIA Rocky Mountain Division as an educator, delivering clinics for the instructors of the Rocky Mountain resorts.
Ross took it to the next level in the world of ski teaching when he made the PSIA National Nordic Telemark team. He is currently in his 12th year as a member of the National Team, which is comprised of the best Nordic and Telemark educators in the country. They are all great skiers and great teachers….the best of the best….in all things free heeled.
His career in the ski industry has been wide reaching and varied. He has been the Head Judge of the US National Telemark Extreme Free Skiing Championships in Crested Butte, CO., as well as a judge for other similar competitions. He started a Junior Telemark Program at Crested Butte and his athletes have had great success in various competitions. Ross also worked for a time as a Nordic Technical rep for Rossignol Ski Co. He was involved in all aspects of the retail industry from the development of product to the waxing of high end Nordic skis.
More and more lately, Ross finds himself in the backcountry and hiking for his turns, and guiding others there. He is a backcountry and cat skiing guide for Irwin Guides in Crested Butte, CO and is also an Avalanche Level 1 Instructor, qualified through AIARE (American Institute for Avalanche Research and Education) to lead Avalanche Awareness clinics and Avalanche Instructor courses.
Ross loves to ski just about anywhere, but he savors the days spent in the backcountry, whether it be hiking in the Anthracites of Crested Butte, a skin track in the backyard of the Kamihoroso Lodge in Hokkaido or a heli lift in Valdez, Alaska. As long as the snow is deep and the friendships are good, Ross is happy.
Ross is a natural born teacher. He will make you a better skier. But most of all, he is just a blast to hang out with in the mountains! His passion for the outdoors and skiing is infectious.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”100px”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
